Some more historic pictures. Mostly, the baby faces backward, just like in the car. You'll get accustomed quickly, especially when you realize the baby is only 40 cm. from your ears. If he/she is not happy, you'll certainly notice!

Baby Marit, the girl in the upper middle, shows satisfaction with the first Babybike in 1993. Now she's a bright and healthy high school scholar. In those early years, the Babybike was only suitable for babies. It had no springs yet, and no cover. Nevertheless the Dutch Cyclists Union (enfb) recorded not less than 98% customer satisfaction in a survey amonngst parents who had many months of experience. In calculating this final score, especially high weight had been attached to answers relating to safety. In other words, according to almost all the parents, this first Babybike system was safe and comfortable. One parent added to his/her questionaire: "My baby only started crying when we stopped for the traffic lights. As soon as we went on, he become quiet again." During the following years we often received spontaneous lyrical feed back.

To make the Babybike even more multifunctional, the fun-factor was added: it could even be changed into a sledge on the ice!
A more serious aspect of this 'toy' function was the match with European toy safety requirements. To qualify, the toy had to be free of a.o. sharp edges, small objects, etc. Besides a weight of 50 kg (!) had to be applied, both upright and sloping. Thus strenght and stability were established. Why elaborate on this? Because it illustrates that the system itself is very strong. The 15 kg limit for cycling purposes is based on the characteristics of the average bicycle and its carrier rack.
